Phase 0 — Preparation and inoculation of Pods
Updated over a week ago

A Pod consists of three main components: the bag, mycelium, and substrate. Each mushroom has different substrate requirements based on how it evolved to absorb nutrients from its environment.

Bags have been made from Polypropylene (PP). The bags contain a breathable surface (air filter) and a self-sealing-injectable surface, usually soldered onto the plastic.

Mycelium is the actual mushroom strain cloned under laboratory conditions, selecting the most viable, highest-yielding, and aesthetically pleasing strains. The Pod is inoculated with mycelium, where, under suitable conditions, it can reproduce (initiate division) and completely colonize the Pod.

Substrate is the medium that provides the necessary nutrients for the mushroom. This is typically a mixture of hard wood chips, straw, and other nutrient-rich plant components.
